Newly designed business process monitoring

theGuard! ServiceCenter focuses on the newly designed "Business Process Monitoring" and the "automated CMDB".
 
Business Process Monitoring is built around the tried and tested technology of theGuard! NetworkManager, all functions are fully integrated. Users can access information on the status of the business processes through their Web browser.
The new Correlation Engine assesses the status on the basis of the monitored components and delivers correlated status information on the business processes.


New: theGuard! NetworkManager VAA technology

Detect configuration and performance problems with just one click of the button! The new VAA technology in theGuard! NetworkManager gives you unique visual methods for analyzing complex IT infrastructures. You can choose between two modules:

• VAA Module - Routing & Switching
• VAA Module - Virtual Networks

Reports on long-term data are important instruments for the planning and analysis within a company. They are indispensable for the verification of service level compliance and serve as basis for usage-based cost allocation.
 
The new Netflow Reporting Package is now available as well!
 
The new reporting engine is based on the Microsoft Reporting Services which are in turn part of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Users can now directly control all key functions of the latest theGuard! NetworkManager 6.0 through a Web browser and thus through the Internet. For example, the Web interface gives users access to graphical representations of the network (maps). The element or device manager enables the visualization of network elements and their configuration through the console. Furthermore, users benefit from the integrated performance and SLA management as well as from a wide range of reports and additional network management features.

As of release 6, theGuard! NetworkManager includes an optionally deployable module for the configuration of network components: the provisioning module was designed to allow for a central management of all configuration parameters of network components from different vendors. Whether you want to set up VLANs throughout the network or roll out new firmware releases, the provisioning module of theGuard! NetworkManager lets users oversee and control any of these tasks from a central point. The module contains predefined standard macros designed for these purposes, which grant access to the command line interpreters of the respective components and can be individually expanded by the user. The scope of service provided by this option is virtually unlimited because it can access native functions of the respective vendors. Any function can be automated, thus, for example, allowing for a time-triggered activation overnight.

Thanks to the seamless integration of theGuard! NetworkManager into theGuard! ServiceCenter, service requests can be efficiently coordinated and processed. The entire information basis is seamlessly integrated into the enterprise-wide CMDB (Configuration Management Database). In this, REALTECH’s IT service management strategy closely follows ITIL guidelines for configuration and change management.

theGuard! NetworkManager’s Netflow option is a web-based analysis software, which delivers indispensable information on the network traffic across an entire enterprise. This includes the providing of detailed analyses on the communication relationships between network subscribers (nodes), which in turn can be grouped and analyzed per users, applications or given protocols.

theGuard! NetworkManager Netflow supplies valuable realizations and answers typical questions:

 

• Who is communicating with whom, how much and what exactly?
• Who uses and how are WAN connections being used and for what?
• Which application requires what percentage of bandwidth?
• Does unusual traffic data denote worm or virus attack?

The decisive advantage of the REALTECH solution is its seamless integration into the network management system. The native Netflow data is linked with SNMP data, thereby greatly elevating the significance of the information returned, evaluation tools could be accessed directly from theGuard! NetworkManager interface. In the event of network anomalies, for example those caused by viruses or worms, Netflow Collectors issue warnings in real time! Productivity as defined by NetworkManager means events are forwarded immediately to the relevant administrator.

 

The data pool is culled from Cisco routers, switches or NetFlow-enabled devices of other vendors. The NetworkManager Netflow Collector receives this data and sends it in aggregation to the NetworkManager database. After the analysis software prepares the data for statistics purposes, it will then be visualized in accordance with the specific time periods selected. Due to the immense amount of data returned, compressing the data without losing any of its weighted significance is always an important consideration. The compressed data is archived automatically to a database on a monthly cycle to ensure long-term evaluation.
