SAP applications and systems form a software solution which permits visualization and operation of company-wide business processes.
SAP NetWeaver’s architecture serves as a basis for new SAP applications within the concept of the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) or Enterprise Service Architecture (ESA).
In order to
achieve this, the SAP R3 or Enterprise Architecture was enhanced with the SAP
Web Application Server which now includes a J2EE Server for Java in addition to
the traditional SAP Application Server for ABAP. Moreover, the SAP Enterprise
Portal and SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) are central integration platforms
which to some extent are core elements of the applications or will become core
elements in subsequent releases.
