There are two types of self-service systems that can be distinguished based on the underlying user roles and areas of responsibility: Employee Self-Services and Manager Self-Services.

Employee Self-Services (SAP ESS) and Manager Self-Services (SAP MSS)


Employee Self-Services allow human resource departments to optimize administrative processes. Employees can use Employee Self-Services to maintain and manage their personal data and retrieve the necessary information through their Web browser.

Manager Self-Services gives a company's managers direct access to SAP data, allowing them to create reports, handle vacation requests, make salary adjustments, or initiate and manage recruiting processes online.
