REALTECH determines the utilization of SAP servers and optimizes the rate of capacity utilization of IT systems
theGuard! ApplicationManager analyzes the SAP benchmark SAPS and delivers performance indicators for the purpose of targeted server optimization.
REALTECH thus gives its customers the ability to efficiently perform a more in-depth analysis of their SAP environments. The objective is to use the collected data to determine the utilization of IT systems and to realize the full potential of IT operation.
This enables IT departments to accurately and equitably allocate costs to internal and external customers in a way that takes into account the actual utilization of existing IT resources. In virtualized environments, this "SAPS equivalent" value allows for better utilization and a more precise sizing of the individual partitions and system enhancements. This enables IT officials to always keep track of whether they need to purchase new hardware or whether they can reallocate available computing resources.

What keeps SAP administrators awake at night...
About one third of surveyed SAP experts prefer a consistent monitoring system with a high-performance root cause analysis. Furthermore, they place great importance on the accurate analysis of performance indicators and the identification of optimization opportunities for complex IT environments. Respondents also said that this was to require as little staff time as possible.
Looking at existing monitoring concepts, 50% of those surveyed complain about the sheer number of messages sent by scores of monitoring tools as well as the exhaustive search for and identification of errors in corporate IT environments. This has adverse effects on the practical realization of the necessary flexibility, planning security, and cost transparency in IT operation.
Respondents are rather skeptical about SOA: 70% of SAP administrators wish for new concepts including new monitoring tools that give them an end-to-end view of their business processes as well as comprehensive performance analysis capabilities for complex system environments.
These are promising results for theGuard! ApplicationManager, which guarantees real-time performance monitoring and analysis and offers significant cost savings potential in IT administration that provides IT managers with the flexibility they need, particularly in a time of crisis.

REALTECH at CeBIT 2009
REALTECH will present its "Tuning Pack for SAP Solution Manager“ at the SAP partner booth P5.15 located at the SAP & Partner booth in hall 4. This software package adds automatisms to the default monitoring functionality of SAP Solution Manager that allow IT departments to improve the efficiency of SAP operation. The seamless connection to Computing Center Management System (SAP CCMS) enables administrators to immediately access system management data of their SAP systems and to integrate it into their alert scenarios. SAP Solution Manager is the centralized tool for solution management in SAP NetWeaver landscapes and is therefore directly involved in the execution of a large number of different SAP processes.
The development of the "Tuning Pack for SAP Solution Manager" was REALTECH's response to one of the latest trends in the field of SAP. Customer interviews revealed that more and more companies were asking for ways to add functionality to their SAP Solution Manager in order to optimize the application management of their SAP applications. Due to the current high demand for this solution, SAP Solution Manager issues will be among the central themes at REALTECH's SAP partner booth.

Small and medium-sized companies are growing increasingly dissatisfied with their outsourcers
More and more customers are complaining about the poor performance of their outsourcing contractors. They are frustrated not only by a lack of transparency and flexibility but also by a poor cultural fit between the companies involved. Small and medium-sized companies are therefore increasingly looking for providers that allow them to respond flexibly to the requirements imposed by an increasingly dynamic environment despite the fact that they have outsourced their IT operations. REALTECH is now addressing this problem and is currently working with a number of customers to develop an alternative model to help companies better overcome organizational hurdles. The objective is to achieve optimum integration, giving outsourcing customers a service model that guarantees best possible support not only for their IT operations but also for any ongoing or future projects. |
The Microsoft Platform in the SAP Data Center Commodity servers, based on x86-64 processors, provide high amounts of processing power, thus eliminating the need for proprietary hardware for any SAP installation.
Windows Server 2008 has the features needed to harness this computing power for SAP installations and to ensure stability, green IT and reduced costs through consolidation and virtualization. It also provides the opportunity to react flexibly to changing business requirements. The Microsoft SQL server achieves this through features that provide high performance, disaster protection and cost reduction by decreasing the amount of disk space needed. |

DSAG Congress 2009 With some 3.000 visitors, this year's DSAG (German-Speaking SAP User Group) congress drew a strong turnout. Participants showed a keen interest in exchanging information during presentations and accompanying events. This made the congress a rather uneventful one for exhibitors because only few visitors found their way to their booths. Many decision-makers REALTECH talked to said that the budgets for 2010 have not been finalized yet and that they have therefore been unable to decide on most of next year's projects. However, the overall mood was much more positive than it was at other events this year – particularly in early 2009.
The CIO dinner that REALTECH hosted during the first evening of the congress was a resounding success. REALTECH was able to welcome 14 participants despite a competing CIO event held at the DSAG congress. They enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and delicious food and took the opportunity to engage in insightful and interesting conversations with their peers. This also gave our guests a chance to identify and discuss new and interesting topics – particularly with respect to the coming year.
Despite the current market conditions and an ongoing sense of crisis, attending the DSAG congress was an important and worthwhile thing to do. |
REALTECH once again awarded for its SAP expertise
As in previous years, SAP AG has once again recognized REALTECH's expertise. In 2009, REALTECH was awarded with an impressive total of five Special Expertise Partnerships (SEP).
• SAP NetWeaver Application Server • SAP NetWeaver Process Integration • SAP NetWeaver Business Process Management • SAP NetWeaver Identity Management • Business Objects Intelligence Platform
These SEPs gained in a variety of fields show one thing – REALTECH is and remains the SAP NetWeaver company. Moreover, REALTECH was able to compellingly demonstrate its competence through a wide range of projects in the field of SAP Business Intelligence. Whether these were projects involving Management Cockpits, BI introduction, or Integrated Planning – the success story is multi-faceted.

IA4SP and RAAD in St. Leon-Rot, Germany: Opportunities 2009 – Market Potential and Strategies for SAP Partners
On March 17, St. Leon-Rot in Germany hosted the "Opportunities 2009 – Market Potential and Strategies for SAP Partners" event. In addition to various companies working in the field of SAP, REALTECH was also present. The event featured a number of presentations that dealt with SAP's partner Econet and, primarily, with the current situation of the IT market in Germany. The studies that were presented at the event showed once more that IT budgets are becoming ever tighter. 41% of IT managers, for example, expect that the financial crisis will have adverse effects on the IT investments of their companies. Particularly those projects that have not yet been planned and budgeted for 2009 in 2008 will be difficult to realize. This will affect the individual industries to various extents. Strong SAP industries such as the automotive, mechanical engineering, and retail industry in particular expect the most significant investment cuts.
From REALTECH's perspective, this confirmed its emphasis on the five hot topics for 2009. With its focus on
• Migrationen & Upgrades • SAP Solution Manager and Run SAP • Human Capital Management • SAP GRC and Identity Management • SAP Business Intelligence and Management Cockpits REALTECH chose the topics that analysts regard as those with the biggest potential for 2009.
Companies are cutting their IT budgets
According to an IT study published by the German newspaper Handelsblatt and the management consultancy Droege & Comp., companies are cutting their IT spending in the face of the current economic crisis and ongoing uncertainty. This was the result of the IT study 2009 that was presented by Handelsblatt and Droege & Comp. on March 4 at CeBIT. It shows that the IT budgets of the surveyed companies will be reduced by 4.2%. "Generally, IT budgets are declining.. The good news, however, is that there are still companies that are investing all the more in this time of crisis," said Torsten Frankenberger, a partner at Droege & Comp.
The study also shows that of the 322 companies in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland that were surveyed, 43% will cut their IT investments, of which 15% will cut them by one-tenth or even more. On the other hand, 34% said that they are planning to step up their investments despite the current crisis. 11% of those companies even indicated that they are going to increase their spending by 10% and more. A large portion of these investments will go towards expanding their business, that is, growth. This means that the sales departments will get the lion's share of the funds. This trend continues from last year.
According to the study, business process harmonization, infrastructure consolidation, application clean-up, and establishing IT process efficiency are the top priorities for IT decision makers in 2009. Consequently, the objective of companies is to bring higher quality to their IT budgets. REALTECH adapted its portfolio accordingly as early as Q4 2008, thus providing the perfect foundation for the better use of IT budgets.
CeBIT 2009: Crises as a driver of change
A lot has been said and written about the world's largest technology trade show over the past days and weeks. REALTECH, too, once again participated in 2009!
Some 4,300 companies from 69 countries came to this year's CeBIT. As a consequence of the current economic slowdown, participation dropped by almost 20% to approximately 400,000 as compared to last year.
REALTECH joined 25 other employers and 5 human resources consultancies at the job & career forum that was sponsored by the German trade journal "Computerwoche". REALTECH's representatives talked to potential employees and were able to make the company known as an employer to professionally experienced visitors. Many graduates and young professionals had already done their own research on REALTECH before coming to CeBIT, which allowed them to take an informed approach to these professional exchanges.
Naturally, the economic and financial crisis was widely talked about by trade visitors and exhibitors. And although there was no flood of visitors, the quality of the talks had notably improved. Some visitors had even taken a few days off work to talk to potential suppliers and partners at CeBIT.
The importance of Microsoft Office SharePoint in the field of SAP is growing
SAP's future strategy is to place greater emphasis on applications and structured contents and to leave the management of unstructured contents and collaboration features to third-party vendors.
REALTECH will carefully assess this new SAP strategy with respect to Content Management, collaboration, and processes, thus enabling its customers to make the most of both worlds.
Their daily routines are forcing users to increasingly rely on a large number of applications – Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, SAP applications, websites and many more. Unwanted process interfaces and user interfaces with different features require users to familiarize themselves with various menus and functionalities. The seamless integration of SAP and collaboration processes with Microsoft Office SharePoint (MOSS) enables users to access their process steps in Microsoft Office. From now on, end users no longer have to leave their familiar environment with the well-known look & feel. In addition to delivering better usability, the use of MOSS also improves processing times and reduces the number of communication interfaces. This leads to a reduction in process costs.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is the perfect complement to the Enterprise Content Management solution. Moreover, the use of MOSS and other Microsoft products in the field of collaboration opens up many new opportunities with respect to the modern Web 2.0.
The integration of MOSS and SAP NetWeaver yields the greatest benefits in the field of SAP. The combination of the portal solutions from both vendors does not translate into cannibalization. On the contrary – both solutions fully leverage their respective strengths.

The new old trend towards cost efficiency
In the SAP world, this means: anything that helps make SAP operation more cost-effective is en vogue again. This in turn means good times for SAP technology consultants since they have the necessary expertise at their immediate disposal.
The open-source operating system Linux has long become a part of the data center. The migration from, preferably, expensive UNIX environments to Linux comes at reasonable cost and risk. Our whitepaper “The Trend from Unix to Linux in SAP® Data Centers” is available as a free download at www.realtech.de/linux.
The optimization of SAP licenses is very high on the agenda of many SAP customers, as it realizes currently untapped cost savings potential. The analysis of user categories and license utilization often offers opportunities for the optimization of costs.
SAP's "Human Capital Management" application suite has evolved from being a mere "administration and accounting tool" to a solution for internal corporate planning and services. SAP NetWeaver technology gives companies the ability to flexibly design their processes and to simplify their application interfaces, that is, to refine their SAP HCM solution. The result is drastically improved data quality, reduced processing times, and therefore significant savings in HR processes.
REALTECH certified for 'Run SAP' methodology
REALTECH AG, a SAP services partner, was certified by SAP AG as a provider of Solution Operations standards implementation services based on the "Run SAP" methodology. REALTECH is one of the first SAP partners to be certified in the 'Run SAP' methodology.
("The adoption of the 'Run SAP' methodology allows us to deliver significant added value to our customers. Particularly through the end-to-end application management that exceeds customer requirements," says Johannes Lang, Managing Director at REALTECH system consulting GmbH. By adopting the SAP standards for Solution Operations, we are providing our customers with proven methodology. 'Run SAP' empowers our customers to manage their SAP applications more efficiently and at a lower cost.")
The Run SAP methodology brings benefits to the operation of SAP solutions just as ASAP brings benefits to their initial implementation. It is a tried and tested methodology that focuses on application management, business process operations, and the operation of SAP applications. It also provides best-practice procedures, guidelines, services, training, and tools for the successful implementation of End-to-End Solution Operations. It focuses on application management, business process operations, and administration of SAP solutions. The 'Run SAP' methodology supports the operation of SAP solutions, but focuses on application management and business process management. In addition, with its best-practice documents, it describes how to implement SAP solution operations for different SAP software-based business processes.
DZ BW works with REALTECH to establish document management and collaboration rooms for customers and partners
To generate more customer benefits, Datenzentrale Baden-Württemberg (DZ BW), a software developer and consulting company for the local authorities of Baden-Württemberg, decided to complement its financial solution with a portal integration. "Looking at REALTECH's technical expertise in the fields of SAP NetWeaver and SAP Enterprise Portal as well as the positive experience gained over many years of cooperation, we knew that REALTECH was the right partner for us", said Helmut Bauer, division manager product development and finance management consulting. The successful implementation of the portal solution for DZ-Kommunalmaster® by REALTECH enabled DZ BW to replace the traditional SAP solution with a Web-based, user-friendly application and to reduce the administrative costs incurred by the system. Furthermore, the new portal laid a solid foundation for the communication with customers and partners, securing the continuous and efficient exchange of information.
Run on the webcast: "Lower the TCO of Your SAP Infrastructure"
In 2008, REALTECH published a study called "The trend from Unix to Linux in SAP® Data Centers" that already highlighted the enormous potential afforded by Linux. The demand for Linux is growing ever stronger and is not only driven by the inherent cost savings potential. Some 230 participants have already signed up for the webcast "Lower the TCO of Your SAP Infrastructure" on February 18, 2009.
Find out about the opportunities afforded by Linux and sign up today.
Despite the crisis, REALTECH continues to hire experienced SAP consultants (m/f)
In spite of the crisis, REALTECH still focuses on growth. REALTECH, for example, has identified growth issues in consulting that continue to be in high demand. Naturally, this calls for qualified and experienced staff. And that is why REALTECH continues to search for experienced consultants (m/f) - project management experience is always welcome, too.
These issues include consolidation and the optimization of operations with consulting issues such as migration, upgrade, and the optimization of system landscapes. Additional growth issues identified by REALTECH are the use of SAP Management Cockpits for efficient corporate management as well as SAP GRC and SAP Identity Management. For this reason, REALTECH is looking for SAP BI consultants (m/f) and consultants (m/f) experienced in GRC and Identity Management.
Linux webinar – recorded version now available
For those who have missed it: lower your infrastructure costs by combining SAP and Linux.

The Trend from UNIX to Linux in SAP Data Centers: whitepaper update now available
The 2008 study showed that more than two out of three SAP migrations to Linux come from UNIX. The updated study now focuses on the trends in 2009 and compares this year's developments with those in 2008. Here, special attention is devoted to architectures, processors, and the psychological motivations for migrating to Linux. The study documents how the availability and reliability of the x64 architecture continues to drive the trend towards Linux. |

SAP and REALTECH focus on "Compliant Identity Management"
The reasons behind the introduction of a SAP-supported Identity Management or GRC solution are the requirements of internal and external compliance guidelines (e.g. BilMoG, REACH, SOX…). In order to ensure the transparency of operational procedures, companies have to establish responsible corporate accountability.
SAP BusinessObjects Access Control and SAP NetWeaver Identity Management are solutions that give companies the opportunity to act proactively and to incorporate automated control mechanisms.
Mature SAP Compliant Identity Management helps them reduce their administrative overhead and costs over the long-term.
This also encompasses reduced workloads for IT departments and the transfer of responsibilities to the individual business departments and data owners. In order to provide you with additional helpful information on automated procedures, controls, processes, and proactive risk minimization, REALTECH is planning a customer information day for this year. Check back shortly for the exact date.
SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) at the SAP Partner Information Day
In March, REALTECH was once again given the opportunity to attend a SAP Partner Information Day. Our Human Capital Management consultants who participated in the event were able to gather many impressions: this included the fact that the public sector is the industry that generates the highest revenue from SAP HCM licenses. Furthermore, SAP highlighted those HCM issues that are considered to have the greatest potential. In conclusion, SAP presented figures from the last SAP HCM congress in Mannheim, Germany, which produced 350 qualified leads and 404 contacts.
The core HCM issues targeted by REALTECH were also identified by SAP as the biggest crowd-pullers in the field of HCM. This includes electronic personnel records, Employee Self-Service scenarios, travel management, document management with Adobe (Interactive Forms) as well as human resources reporting with SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence. This year, customers will mainly invest in these issues, as they yield the greatest potential for optimization for the business department.
Moreover, REALTECH was able to gather partner-related information, e.g. on partner integration opportunities when it comes to testing, collaborative business integration and ramp-up projects, as well as information on partner enablement. The training of partners was another key issue, just like the use of playbooks and many more aspects.
REALTECH was given an overview of the changes included in the latest SAP HCM Enhancement Packages (EHP6) - particularly with respect to personnel cost planning, statements, and HR Shared Services. SAP also presented the integration of Lotus Notes - the so-called Alloy project, as well as new 2009 regulations in the field of human resources. Last but not least, Rene Schumann, SAP's Product & Partner Manager, provided attendees with detailed and comprehensible information on SAP's Business Suite 7.0.
To summarize, it was a most interesting and insightful day. Any SAP partner can only benefit from this event.
